HKOLA is supporting a comprehensive academic study conducted by four researchers with links to Hong Kong, that aims to shed light on the current state of Hong Kong's outdoor education sector, and provide an update to a previous study conducted in 2005.

The research seeks to capture a snapshot of the sector, focusing on its size, the range of outdoor learning opportunities available, and the individuals engaged in this field.

Led by a team of researchers, the study aims to deliver an in-depth analysis of the outdoor education landscape in Hong Kong. By revisiting and expanding upon the previous study, the researchers seek to provide an up-to-date understanding of the sector's growth, changes, and emerging trends.

One of the primary objectives of the study is to determine the current size and scope of the outdoor education sector in Hong Kong. By examining factors such as the number of organizations, educational institutions, and programs involved, the researchers aim to quantify the sector's overall scale and influence. The study also seeks to document the diverse range of outdoor learning opportunities available in Hong Kong. From adventure-based activities to environmental education programs, the researchers aim to create a comprehensive map of the various initiatives that contribute to outdoor education. This mapping exercise will provide valuable insights into the breadth and depth of educational experiences offered in natural and outdoor settings.

In addition to assessing the sector's size and opportunities, the study places a significant emphasis on the individuals contributing to Hong Kong's outdoor education field. By surveying and interviewing practitioners, educators, and professionals involved in outdoor education, the researchers aim to capture a nuanced understanding of the demographics, qualifications, and experiences of the people working in this sector. This profiling will contribute to a better understanding of the workforce and its evolving needs.

The findings of this study hold immense value for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders invested in the growth and development of outdoor education in Hong Kong. By providing an updated and comprehensive overview of the sector, it is hoped that the research can inform strategic decision-making, curriculum development, and resource allocation. The study will also serve as a foundation for future research and inquiry into the evolving nature of outdoor education.

As Hong Kong continues to recognize the importance of outdoor education in fostering holistic development and environmental awareness, this academic study offers a timely and crucial update on the state of the sector. By investigating its size, range of opportunities, and the people involved, the research provides a valuable resource for understanding and advancing outdoor education in Hong Kong.
